First time customer, should have read the reviews .., 11-03-2008 05:29AM

First time customer, should have read the reviews here. Also should have been more careful of what I was getting into. My insurance was about to expire as I planned to switch coverage under a new place of employment, so I wanted to get in my dental work in before the move. After claiming that I have 7 cavities, they suggested to get all my work done there; when I got the estimate, they put all the charges on the bill and almost tricked me into have it done, with the knowledge that 2 teeth were not covered at all under my insurance that was about to expire. I quickly caught this and said I would come back later when my new coverage started, not thinking that this was just the beginning of the horror…During the visit, they tried to sell me the expensive toothbrush, among other things, and didn’t seem too concerned with my well being (no surprise here…)

Then, I got a bill a month later for the balance of my uninsured bill, with a note saying “your dental insurance coverage will not cover these teeth because I’ve had them done in the last 2 years!†You would think that they would have the common sense to check on this with insurance co. but when I called insurance, they said they only called to check the coverage on cavities in general, and this was done as a ‘courtesy’!! My insurance said the proper procedure would have been to get a price estimate in writing based on the exact teeth and date that work would be done, so I would know that I’m not covered. Umm..yea, this makes sense, unless you’re the type of office that wants to go out of business (apparently they are)! After calling http://www.dbc.ca.gov/, the better business bureau, my insurance co. and the dentist, nothing got resolved with insurance blaming the dentist and vice versa and dbc and bbb saying they couldn’t help. On top of all this, they had the nerve to charge me interest on the work, even though I didn’t receive the bill until 2 months after I had work done…
If one person reads this and doesn’t go to last dental it would make me a little happier….
And by the way, I’ll be sure to put my phone on silent on the weekends when they call to complain about these posts……all the better because it means they’re more focused on reading complaints and yelling at people than trying to improve their service and not go out of business…
For those who are deciding where to go, use 1800 dentists (don’t plan on finding them listed as an approved dentist), go to someone a friend recommends, and most importantly do your research! To summarize, first dental is not a part of 1800 dentist, not better business bureau approved, and has one star on yelp (http://www.yelp.com/biz/first-dental-care-livermore#hrid:wBPMjHzeyii_emNmMdNTXg/query:first%20dental) ….enough said.
